At the beginning of December, soldiers from the Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment announced that a 100-kilogram FAB-100 aerial bomb had been found on the grounds of the Border Guard Specialist Training Centre in Lubań. The officers added at the time:
Planned method for neutralizing the unexploded bomb: carrying out deflagration using a VULCAN charge (in brief: burning out the explosive material inside the bomb).
Our work on constructing a “sarcophagus” in which the bomb will be neutralized is under way
in order to reduce the destructive effects of a possible detonation and thus significantly reduce the danger zone from 1,000 m to 300 m.
The bomb had lain in the ground for 75 years. It is already known that it will be neutralized on Tuesday, December 15. The bomb disposal specialists said:
The danger zone extends 300 m (residents will be evacuated and parking vehicles outdoors will be prohibited).
Additionally, within a zone of up to 500 m, people will be prohibited from staying outdoors).
They added:
Our explosive-ordnance and pyrotechnic work on the bomb will begin at 9:00 a.m. This means that by 9:00 a.m., all residents located within the danger zone will have been evacuated.
