– As of 5 December 2020, under the amendments introduced to the Road Traffic Act, drivers are not required to carry their driving licence while driving a car – says Sub-Inspector Edyta Bagrowska, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra.

She adds:

During a roadside check, a police officer will verify electronically whether the driver is authorised to drive, using the IT system of the central register of drivers. However, it should be remembered that genuine personal details must be provided when an identity check is conducted. People who attempt to mislead police officers about their identity will be taken to the nearest police station to establish their personal details.

The obligation to carry a driving licence still applies to foreigners.
