Police officers have been watching churches since yesterday. Police cars and unmarked police vehicles are driving around at night and checking whether anyone wants to write something on the buildings or do anything else. As we have learned, the police are checking churches in Bolesławiec and throughout the county.

The police operation is presumably the result of concerns on the part of the government and the Catholic Church that someone might try to express their anger by painting on walls following demonstrations over the tightening of abortion regulations.

There are approximately 11,000 Catholic churches in Poland (2018 data). Over the weekend, police recorded 22 intrusions into churches and 78 minor cases of damage to the façades of Catholic Church buildings across the country—less than one percent of all churches.
