Bolesławiec criminal investigators arrested a suspect in the burglary of a lorry just a few hours after the incident. “The perpetrator hoped he could outsmart the police by hiding in the bed where a senior was lying,” reports asp. szt. Monika Kaleta of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. “When the police officers knocked on the door, they heard the voice of an elderly man claiming that he felt very unwell and was unable to open the door.”

In addition to carrying out operational activities, the officers became concerned about the senior’s health and wanted to call an ambulance to the scene, but it quickly turned out that this was unnecessary. With the assistance of firefighters, the police entered the room of the “ailing” elderly man, where they discovered that he had a roommate who was the wanted criminal.

The 41-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County was arrested in connection with the burglary of a vehicle and an attempted burglary of a lorry.

While searching the residential and farm buildings used by the man, officers secured parcels worth several hundred złoty that had been lost as a result of a burglary in Bolesławiec County. In addition, the police recovered a passenger car stolen in Jawor County, as well as a number of valuable items originating from thefts in Germany. These included 17 aluminium rims, 5 electric scooters, power tools, a ride-on mower, a small trailer and a car transporter.

Police officers from Bolesławiec County are currently working with German authorities to determine where and when the secured items were stolen.

The suspect has already been charged with attempted and completed burglary, as well as receiving a vehicle worth PLN 12,000. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
