The matter was reported by the Lwówek na sygnale service:
Over the past few days, car thieves have become extremely active in the counties of Lwówek, Lubań, Zgorzelec, Złotoryja, Bolesławiec and Jelenia Góra.
As our readers report, during just one night, six cars were stolen in Zawidów; previously, two cars were stolen in Gryfów, and several in Jelenia Góra and other towns.
The service adds:
As a result, police forces, particularly plainclothes detectives, have been reinforced. However, we appeal to everyone to secure their vehicles as much as possible, carefully observe parked vehicles and the surrounding area, and, if suspicious individuals appear, call the emergency number 112 immediately.
Only by working together can we limit this [...] practice. This is especially important because there is no pattern when it comes to the stolen cars: vehicles of various makes worth more than PLN 100,000 have been stolen, but also cars worth PLN 4,000.
We would add that theft can result in a sentence of between three months and as many as five years in prison. Theft involving a break-in can result in up to ten years behind bars.
