Officers of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec very often conduct search operations for people who entered the forest and got lost. KPP:
People who have got lost and cannot find their way out of the forest call the emergency services, or family members report that someone went into the forest and has not returned despite many hours having passed.
We urge you to take a charged mobile phone when going into the forest. If you get lost, you can easily determine your location using your mobile device and, for example, send it to the emergency services by text message so that they can reach you as quickly as possible.
With the help of various free applications, your phone can tell you where you are, giving you the opportunity to find your way back on your own.
The uniformed officers stress:
The most important thing is to charge your phone before going into the forest.
What should you remember when going mushroom picking?
- inform your loved ones about your trip to the forest, indicate the area where you will be staying and when you plan to return
- take reflective items or flashlights with you; thanks to them, you will be more visible at night
- keep a mobile phone with you, as it may be useful in emergency situations
- if you take a dog, be sure to keep it on a leash
- do not carry valuables with you to avoid losing them
- for safety reasons, do not enter military training grounds, due to the risk of encountering unexploded ordnance
- if you take children or elderly people with you, do not let them out of your sight
- remember distinctive features of the area and the numbers of boundary posts, which will help you find your way back more quickly
- if a person gets lost, separates from the group and remains in the forest for an extended period, they should contact the nearest Police unit by calling the emergency number 997 or 112 and, if possible, report where they are; they should look for a granite boundary post (the number shown on the post will allow the location of the missing person to be determined quickly)
- if the missing person finds their way back on their own, they should immediately notify the Police that they no longer need assistance
- when going into the forest, secure your vehicle properly, lock the doors and windows, and leave the car in a visible place so that it does not become an easy target for thieves
- do not leave valuable items in the vehicle (navigation equipment, a laptop, a mobile phone, a handbag, a wallet or documents).
Police officers:
We also remind you that stopping or parking on a motorway or expressway anywhere other than in a designated area is prohibited.
