On 15 July, the District Court in Jelenia Góra—at the request of the Jelenia Góra Regional Prosecutor’s Office—ordered the pre-trial detention of four Poles suspected of participating in an organized criminal group involved in the intra-Community transport of methamphetamine, as well as drug trafficking.

Investigators:

As part of their criminal activity, the residents of the area around Zgorzelec, aged between 29 and 48, brought drugs from the Czech Republic into Poland and then traded in the imported goods. In total, they brought into Poland no less than 1,300 grams of methamphetamine and half a kilogram of non-fibre hemp, so-called marijuana. The total value was more than PLN 136,000.

They also add:

The detention measures applied to the men are the result of the painstaking work of prosecutors from the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra and officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation. The law enforcement authorities of the Czech Republic also provided international legal assistance during the collection of evidence.

All four had previously been in conflict with the law, and one of them had been convicted of a drug offence. The arrested men now face sentences of between at least three and fifteen years in prison.
