The incident occurred on July 14 in Szklarska Poręba (Jelenia Góra County). That day, a woman called a resident of the town on her landline. The criminal claimed to be the woman’s daughter and persuaded her to withdraw PLN 20,000 from the bank.

Deputy Inspector Edyta Bagrowska, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra:

The money was supposedly to be paid as bail to release her son-in-law from detention, after he had caused a car accident.

The spokesperson adds:

Fortunately, the cash was not handed over, because the victim was contacted by her real daughter and it turned out to have been an attempted fraud.

Police officers: “We warn against such calls.”
