The incident occurred on Monday, June 22, at around 7:00 a.m., on 100-lecia Odzyskania Niepodległości Avenue in Legnica. The driver of a Peugeot Jumper probably failed to adjust his speed to the road conditions, lost control of the vehicle and hit a streetlight.

A moment later, he rammed into crash barriers and, after a few metres, hit another lamp. The result? The vehicle became suspended on the barriers.

Police officers and paramedics immediately went to the scene. “The man behind the wheel was highly agitated and aggressive. The officers immediately noticed his irrational behaviour; it was decided to conduct tests for the presence of drugs in his body,” reports Junior Constable Jagoda Ekiert, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica. “The drug test immediately showed that the driver was under the influence of amphetamine/methamphetamine-type intoxicants. The man was taken to hospital.”

The spokeswoman adds:

The incident looked very serious. Fortunately, no one was cycling or walking in that area. Recklessness, bravado, and a lack of imagination and caution behind the wheel often lead to tragic road accidents.

Remember not to get behind the wheel under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Be sensible and take care of your own safety and that of others on the road.

The driver could now face up to two years in prison.
