The incident occurred on 14 June at around 2:45 p.m. “The Border Guard officer noticed a Citroen C4 passenger car, which forced him to brake suddenly after moving into the adjacent lane. The officer turned around and followed the Citroen, which was weaving through the streets of Pieńsk,” says Maj. Joanna Konieczniak of the Border GuardJoanna Konieczniak, spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit.

She adds:

The Citroen driver repeatedly drove onto the pavement, both on the right and left sides of the road. At one point, while driving on the pavement, he nearly hit a girl walking there; at the last moment, she jumped onto the grass. The car suddenly stopped on a residential street.

The officer seized the opportunity and immediately ran to the vehicle. It turned out that the car’s driver was completely drunk. The Border Guard officer removed the keys from the ignition, ordered the man to remain in the car and notified the police. (While waiting for the patrol to arrive, the driver repeatedly tried to get out of the Citroen, grabbed the officer and attempted to escape.)

The “road pirate” turned out to be a 64-year-old resident of Pieńsk. He had a blood alcohol level of 2.5 per mille. Officers from the police station in Pieńsk are handling further proceedings in the case.

Let us recall that driving under the influence of alcohol is punishable by up to two years in prison.
