Lwówek police officers detained two men on May 21 who got behind the wheel while intoxicated. At around 5:30 p.m. in Żerkowice, a 39-year-old driving a Volkswagen Polo lost control of the vehicle on sharp bends and drove into a ditch. As it turned out, the man was drunk; he had more than one per mille of alcohol in his exhaled air.
The perpetrator of the second incident, which took place around midnight on Zamkowa Street in Lwówek Śląski, was a resident of Nowogrodziec. “The 36-year-old driver of an Audi hit a concrete wall in Lwówek Śląski. The officers who arrived at the scene tested the man with an Alere device for the presence of intoxicating substances in his system. The result showed that the 36-year-old from Nowogrodziec was under the influence of amphetamine, methamphetamine and marijuana,” says senior constable Olga Łukaszewicz from the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski. She adds: “Furthermore, when the man was searched, it turned out that he was carrying intoxicating substances in the form of amphetamine and marijuana.”
Both men lost their driving licences. They will now answer for their actions before the court. The 39-year-old could face up to two years in prison. Our fellow resident, meanwhile, could be imprisoned for three years.
(Neither intoxicated driver suffered anything more serious).
