Officers from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec are distributing information about fraud as part of preventive measures related to the safety of older people. “Through the media, police officers remind seniors to remain vigilant when dealing with strangers,” says Senior Staff Sergeant Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec. “One way of reaching seniors was a visit to allotment gardens, where police officers handed out leaflets with advice on how to behave in order not to become victims of criminals.”
She adds:
The officers informed allotment holders that even during the threat of coronavirus infection, older people may be defrauded. Criminals are constantly devising new methods; they pretend not only to be police officers, employees of state institutions or family members, but—as recent days have shown—can also impersonate employees of a company carrying out disinfection. They prey on people’s lack of awareness. Through deception, they lure them out of their homes and order them to leave their savings in a designated place.
Moreover, in connection with the obligation to cover one’s face, the policewoman handed out reusable masks sewn for residents by women volunteers participating in the “Bolesławiec sews for medics” campaign. Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters:
People of goodwill provide masks to police officers, and the officers distribute them as part of their daily service.
We remind you: fraud is punishable by imprisonment ranging from six months to as many as eight years.
