– The annual competition for the title of master of the artillery profession is a long-standing tradition cultivated in WRiA units. The training conducted in the garrison and at field-training centres makes it possible to develop the “artillery workshop” of commanders and improve individual firing skills – says Maj. Remigiusz Kwieciński of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment in Bolesławiec. – Theoretical knowledge supported by experience and practice is every artilleryman’s powerful weapon, but the title of “master” can go to only one person.
The competition was held in two stages: theoretical and practical. During the first stage, conducted on 30 April this year, the artillerymen’s knowledge of firing and fire control, combat work with equipment, surveying, and occupational health and safety rules was tested.
The aim of the second stage, held on 8 May this year, was to test practical skills, namely carrying out artillery fire missions, as well as completing geodetic positioning tasks.
After completing the tasks in the written tests, the competitors performed individual tasks at the artillery photo-firing range. At this stage, the accuracy of completing the fire mission, the time taken, and the number of instructional errors made while carrying out the fire mission were assessed.
The committee – chaired by the deputy commander of the 4th dar, Maj. Grzegorz Kozik – selected the winner after carefully calculating all the points from each competition. This year, Capt. Łukasz Lenart became the 23rd Artillery Regiment’s master of fire, while the titles of vice-masters were won by: 2nd Lt. Łukasz Więckiewicz and Maj. Przemysław Witwicki.
Captain Lenart will represent the regiment in the next stage of the divisional-level competition.
