The incident occurred on Thursday, April 16, at around 2:00 p.m. A 33-year-old resident of Lubin County, who had been admitted to the infectious diseases ward at the psychiatric hospital in Bolesławiec, managed to escape.
(The man was not infected with coronavirus; he was admitted to the facility because he had been quarantined after returning from abroad).
As it turned out, the escapee quickly returned home, to one of the towns in Lubin County. “On April 16 this year, at around 4:30 p.m., the duty officer at the Lubin police headquarters received a report that an aggressive man had damaged the front door of a house with a hammer and started a disturbance. Patrol officers from the prevention department immediately went to the scene,” says Senior Sergeant Sylwia Serafin, spokeswoman for the Lubin County Police Headquarters. “Before the officers arrived, the aggressor fled the scene. The police established that the man should have been staying at a specialist hospital, to which he had been admitted the previous day. The 33-year-old escaped from the hospital, returned to his place of residence, and when he could not get into the house, he damaged the front door with a hammer and then assaulted one of his family members. He also threatened to beat a neighbor.”

Investigators notified the State County Sanitary Inspector in Lubin about the breach of quarantine rules. The inspector may impose a fine of up to PLN 30,000 on the irresponsible 33-year-old.At the request of the police and the prosecutor’s office, the 33-year-old was remanded in custody for three months. The man will be held responsible for using violence against family members, causing bodily injury, damaging property, making criminal threats, and exposing other people to the loss of life or health by failing to comply with quarantine rules.
