The Lubin traffic police received a report of a young woman being struck in the Lubin municipality. Officers determined that the 22-year-old, riding a bicycle with faulty brakes, was being towed on a line by her 25-year-old male friend, who was also riding a two-wheeled vehicle.
At one point, the male cyclist moved onto the shoulder to give way to the driver of a VW Golf passenger car. The woman being towed hit the Volkswagen.
It turned out that both cyclists were drunk. The 22-year-old had 1.2 per mille of alcohol in her system, while her friend had nearly one per mille. The Golf driver was sober.
The woman suffered a leg injury.
“Police officers determined that the pair of friends had been drinking alcohol shortly beforehand outside one of the local shops. Because of the damaged brakes on the woman’s bicycle, her friend offered to tow her. Fortunately, the injuries suffered by the irresponsible cyclist were not serious,” says asp. szt. Sylwia Serafin, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lubin. “After all the circumstances have been clarified, the woman and man will face the appropriate legal consequences for their actions.”
