Officers from the Division for Combating Economic Crime of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra established that a 35-year-old resident of Świdnica County, who is being held in pre-trial detention, was involved in importing cars from abroad and bringing them into Poland without paying VAT and with significantly reduced excise tax.

The officers established that from January to October 2016, the man ran a company importing cars from Germany. During that time, the 35-year-old imported as many as 34 vehicles of various makes. He used other individuals and business entities, as well as fictitious contracts, for the transactions. By failing to submit VAT returns and paying reduced excise tax, he caused losses of more than PLN 1.5 million to the detriment of the State Treasury.

“Police officers are currently clarifying all the details of this case, which is developing. Further arrests cannot be ruled out,” says Sub-Inspector Edyta Bagrowska, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra.

At the prosecutor’s request, the court ordered the 35-year-old’s temporary detention for three months. “He faces an unconditional prison sentence for the crimes he committed,” adds Inspector E. Bagrowska.
