When a police officer from the Prevention Division of the Zgorzelec District Police Headquarters was in one of the shops in Lubań County while off duty, he noticed a security guard struggling with a man. Without hesitating for a moment, he rushed to the guard’s aid.
As it later turned out, the 26-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County had stolen two bottles of alcohol. When one of the security guards tried to detain him, the man, trying to free himself, attempted to hit the guard in the head with the stolen goods.
At that point, the thief’s accomplice joined the attack on the security guard. Fortunately, the swift reaction of the Zgorzelec police officer and a second security guard helped apprehend the aggressive 26-year-old. (Efforts to detain the suspected accomplice are ongoing).
At the prosecutor’s request, the court ordered the 26-year-old to be temporarily detained for two months. He now faces a sentence of between one and as many as ten years in prison.
