In this year’s General Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces’ mass sports competition in Group One, athletes from the 23rd Artillery Regiment won 26 medals, including 8 gold and 7 silver, taking fourth place in the overall classification. They concluded their participation in the Polish Army Championships with a total of 18 medals, including 9 gold and 4 silver.
Head of the Physical Education and Sports Section of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, Maj. Jakub Wołyński, presenting the results achieved in individual events and the profiles of the soldiers who represented the regiment in last year’s championships, emphasized their hard work:
Winning 18 medals and taking fourth place on the podium is the fruit of our soldiers’ hard work and determination, especially amid such strong competition from soldiers serving in larger and much more numerous units than ours.
Major Wołyński added that physical education is one of the elements of a soldier’s training, and that equal emphasis should be placed on physical fitness as on other elements of training.
Summing up the artillerymen’s sporting successes, the commander of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, Colonel Grzegorz Potrzuski, thanked the athletes for their effort and commitment, as well as for representing the regiment with distinction at the level of the 11th “Lubusz” Armoured Cavalry Division and the General Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces, and at the Polish Army Championships:
I realize the tremendous effort each of you puts into preparing for competitions and sporting championships. In sport, just as in military service, there are no shortcuts. It was only through tremendous effort, training and personal commitment that you were able to achieve such high results, so I thank you for your hard work and commitment.
At the end, the best athletes were honored and the sports competition at the level of the 23rd Artillery Regiment was summarized. For taking the top places in the 2019 sports competition, trophies and letters of congratulations were presented by Colonel Potrzuski to:
- Lt. Tomasz Derewiński, commander of the 2nd battery of the 3rd Rocket Artillery Squadron
- Capt. Łukasz Ratański, commander of the 1st battery of the 1st Self-Propelled Artillery Squadron
- Lt. Wojciech Niedźwiedź, commander of the command battery of the 3rd Artillery Squadron.
In the individual classification, the title of the best athlete of the 23rd Artillery Regiment was awarded to Pvt. Mateusz Dzioba of the 3rd Rocket Artillery Squadron. Over the past year, the artilleryman achieved:
- Second place in the team classification at the General Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces Cross-Country Running Championships
- Second place in the 4 x 1,000-metre relay at the General Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces Cross-Country Running Championships
- Third place in the men’s under-34 category at the General Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces Orienteering Championships
- Third place at the General Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces Volleyball Championships
- First place in the sprint race at the Polish Army Orienteering Championships
- First place in the senior relay at the Polish Army Orienteering Championships
- First place in the team classification at the Polish Army Orienteering Championships
- Third place in the middle-distance race at the Polish Army Orienteering Championships.
