This refers to the SPEED group, which has been working effectively for around six months to improve safety on the roads of our province. Provincial Police Headquarters:
Exceeding the speed limit, improper overtaking and inappropriate behaviour near pedestrian crossings are particularly dangerous offences that have a highly significant impact on the risk of road incidents occurring.
Speed in particular is a key factor that also decisively affects the type and extent of injuries suffered by road-accident participants. To eliminate these negative phenomena from the roads of Lower Silesia, the SPEED group was established six months ago. It consists of the most experienced police officers, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to combat road pirates.
On 17 January, officers from the Provincial Police Headquarters organised a meeting at which they summarised this specialist team’s six-month operation in Lower Silesia. The results achieved by SPEED were presented by Piotr Wiśniewski, deputy head of the Traffic Division of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław, chief inspector.Piotr Wiśniewski.
What did SPEED achieve in six months?
- checked nearly 13,000 vehicles
- identified more than 9,000 drivers who failed to comply with speed limits. (More than 800 of them had their driving licences revoked for three months for exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h in a built-up area)
- recorded nearly 2,000 other offences committed by drivers
- issued nearly 11,000 fines, while in 119 cases applications for punishment were submitted to the court
- seized more than 850 registration certificates.
Officers:
All this is intended to make the roads of Lower Silesia safer by eliminating every manifestation of road aggression and dangerous behaviour.
The police add:
Let us remember, however, that the safety of road users—all of us—depends primarily on ourselves. By following the applicable regulations and exercising caution and common sense on the road, we can help reduce the number of accidents and the number of victims who lose their lives in them.
Every driver whose behaviour creates a danger in road traffic must be aware that punishment is inevitable. If they encounter specialists from the SPEED group, whose main task is to combat road pirates, they will face severe consequences for the risk to life and health to which they expose themselves and other road users.
