The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 14. An 18-year-old stole his friend’s phone and then demanded money for returning it. The next day, a 26-year-old man arrived at a meeting where the exchange was supposed to take place. As it turned out, the perpetrator of the theft had asked his older friend to help extort a ransom for the stolen phone because he did not want to be recognized.
Police officers were already waiting at the agreed location and arrested the 26-year-old. The younger accomplice was also apprehended by officers that same day.
The phone was returned to its owner. Both suspects face up to 8 years in prison.
