Officers from the Prevention Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of driving while intoxicated, causing a road collision and fleeing the scene.
The KMP duty officer received a report that a driver who was probably drunk had driven away from one of the petrol stations. A few minutes later, the same man caused a road collision. And—as stated in the report—he fled the scene.
Police officers spotted the vehicle they were looking for. When he saw the police car, the driver entered one of the properties, stopped the car and then began fleeing on foot. The fugitive was caught by officers shortly afterwards.
The driver and perpetrator of the collision turned out to be a 26-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra. Indeed, he was completely drunk; a test showed more than 2 per mille of alcohol in his system.
Witnesses reported that the man drove the wrong way down one of the streets and then hit a Peugeot, which in turn crashed into an Opel.
The man was taken into police custody. He now faces up to two years in prison. His driving licence was also confiscated because… it contained an incorrect date of birth.
