An 81-year-old woman from Jelenia Góra received a call on her landline from a man claiming to be a CBŚP officer. The fake officer informed the elderly woman that she needed to withdraw all the money held in her bank account. He convinced her that this was all necessary so that she would not lose her savings.

What is more, he cynically persuaded his victim not to reveal the details of the conversation to any of her relatives.

Following the instructions of the fake police officer, the woman from Jelenia Góra withdrew tens of thousands of zlotys from her account and then handed the cash to an unknown man.

Officers:

Let us remember that the principle of limited trust toward strangers applies not only to children. Adults often forget about it and become victims of their own gullibility and lack of prudence.

Unexpected calls from people claiming to be officials, officers or family members, as well as from long-unseen grandchildren or nieces, do not have to end in financial loss if we remain vigilant.

And they add:

Let us not be deceived! Let us discuss unusual situations that happen to us with other family members, and report all suspicious requests to lend money to the Police by calling the emergency number 997 or 112. Let us not be afraid that the alarm may turn out to be false.

Let us recall: fraud is punishable by a sentence ranging from six months to as many as eight years in prison.
