On 2 December, the Zgorzelec County Police Headquarters was notified of the theft of a VW vehicle in Zgorzelec. The vehicle contained power tools and documents. The owner estimated the losses at PLN 8,000.
At the same time, police officers received information that two prisoners from a semi-open prison had left without authorization. As it turned out, the 34-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra County and the 37-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County went to work and did not return to prison after finishing.
Officers from Pieńsk and criminal investigators from Zgorzelec arrested the escapees several days later. The vehicle stolen by the 37-year-old was recovered in Germany. (Some of the stolen tools were also recovered.)
Both suspects will face charges for unlawfully escaping, an offense punishable by up to two years in prison. The older of the detained prisoners may additionally spend between three months and 7.5 years behind bars.
