KGP:
The purpose of the operation is to make vehicle drivers aware that excessive speed is the primary cause of fatal road accidents. The operation is intended to ensure broadly understood safety; therefore, officers will respond not only to violations involving speeding, but also to other breaches of road traffic regulations.
Particular attention will be paid, among other places, to locations where road accidents occur most frequently. Officers will:
As part of the operation, police officers will conduct speed measurements both statically (with at least two speed-measurement points on the same section of road, at the same time but in different locations) and dynamically (using a vehicle equipped with a video recorder for recording violations).
Drivers who fail to comply with speed limits, especially those who exceed them substantially, must expect consequences. In addition to a possible fine and an increase in their “collection of penalty points,” drivers also risk losing their driving licence.
Police remind drivers that exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h in a built-up area results in the driving licence being confiscated. In 2019, police officers confiscated 38,720 such licences for exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h in a built-up area. This was almost 75% more than in the comparable period of 2018.
Officers:
We appeal to drivers to observe permitted speed limits and to reduce their speed in places where regulations and common sense require particular caution. Such increased vigilance is necessary, among other places, near pedestrian crossings, cycle crossings and at intersections.
They add:
Let us remember! A safe speed is one that gives the driver complete control over the vehicle and is adapted to traffic volume, applicable speed limits, weather conditions, road-surface condition and the driver's own abilities.
