The accident occurred on Sunday, September 15, before 3:00 p.m., in Kozłów (Bolesławiec municipality).

The 41-year-old Peugeot driver, a resident of Bolesławiec County, veered into the opposite lane of traffic for reasons not yet established and collided with a motorcycle traveling properly in the opposite direction. Two people were traveling on the motorcycle: a 46-year-old driver and a 48-year-old passenger. (Both were from Zgorzelec County.)

The motorcycle rider died at the scene, while the seriously injured passenger was transported by an LPR helicopter to a hospital in Zielona Góra.

Importantly, the perpetrator of the accident was subject to a court-ordered driving ban. What is more, the 41-year-old was drunk, with 1.3 per mille of alcohol in his system.

The suspect will now face the court for his actions.

Volunteer firefighters from Trzebień:

Upon arriving at the scene, it turned out that a passenger car carrying only its driver had collided head-on with a motorcycle carrying two people. Our unit’s operations consisted of securing the scene, providing qualified first aid to the injured, and applying extinguishing agent to the burning motorcycle.

One of the people traveling on the motorcycle was found to have no vital signs, so our rescuers immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation using a defibrillator. Despite more than 40 minutes of resuscitation, a doctor pronounced the person dead.

In addition to the firefighters from Trzebień, firefighters from Bolesławiec, Szprotawa and Leszno Górne, the police, three emergency medical teams and an air ambulance crew took part in the operation.

The police and prosecutor’s office are investigating the causes of the tragedy.
