The athletics stadium, together with a football pitch and associated infrastructure, meets the requirements of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the Polish Athletics Association. Due to its geographical location and equipment, it will be suitable for hosting high-altitude training camps and athletics competitions for all age categories and at every level of proficiency.

The stadium’s infrastructure will enable the implementation of the central sports training programme of various sports associations. The attractiveness of the new facility is further enhanced by the sporting potential of the city of Karpacz, which is home to two full-size sports halls and three multi-purpose pitches, as well as accommodation facilities with 17,000 places, physiotherapy and wellness facilities.

Another advantage of this location is the city’s exceptional climatic conditions.

The Irena Szewińska Athletics Stadium will also become an important facility for training students at the School of Sports Championship, which has operated in Karpacz since 1980. The Academic Sports Association Sports Club in Wrocław, the Polish Volleyball Association, the Polish Ski Association, the Lower Silesian Athletics Association and the Polish Athletics Association expressed their support for the idea of building an athletics stadium in Karpacz and their willingness to use it.

“I am very pleased about another modern sports facility in our region. This stadium will serve athletes from the School of Sports Championship and will also be used for school, extracurricular and sports activities. As a result, it will enable many children to spend their time actively, discover the joys of sport and perhaps achieve significant sporting results in the future. Facilities like this create potential for the development of sport in the region,” notes Michał Bobowiec, Member of the Voivodeship Board.

The investment was included in the investment programme of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism for projects of particular importance to sport. Construction was carried out in 2018–2019,

and its total cost exceeded PLN 24 million. It was financed from the budget of the Municipality of Karpacz, which allocated more than PLN 15 million for this purpose, as well as from the Physical Culture Development Fund managed by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism (PLN 7 million) and the budget of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship (PLN 2 million).
