This was another outstanding performance by the young athlete. Almost immediately after returning from Italy, where in mid-July he won the silver medal at the European U18 Championships, Dawid Barański travelled to Oregon in the United States to compete in the World U20 Championships.
Barański was one of the youngest athletes in the field. In the qualifying round, he cleared 2.14 m, matching his personal best. This result earned him a place in the final, which featured the 13 best high jumpers in the world.
The young Pole performed excellently in the final. He cleared 2.17 m, improving his personal best and taking 7th place at the World U20 Championships.
The 2.17 m result is also particularly significant. It is the best result by a Polish youth athlete in the high jump in 20 years. He missed out on a medal by very little – a clearance of 2.21 m would have secured a podium finish.
Dawid’s success is all the more impressive because he competed against older athletes. Despite this, he joined the world elite and showed that in the future he may compete for the top places at the most important events.
It is one of the best results achieved by Polish representatives at this year’s championships.
Many congratulations to Dawid Barański and his coach Paweł Wiśniewski! 👏
For the young athlete, this is another confirmation that he is among the country’s elite in the high jump and now also among the world’s best.
