Police officers from the Bogatynia police station stopped a vehicle for a roadside inspection after noticing that its driver was talking on the phone.
During the inspection, it turned out that the 47-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County was transporting cigarettes of various brands without Polish excise stamps. The illegal goods were secured, and the man was arrested and taken to the police station.
As it turned out, the vehicle contained 220,000 cigarettes. The excise tax shortfall to the detriment of the State Treasury was estimated at nearly PLN 240,000.
The 47-year-old was charged with violating fiscal penal regulations. He faces up to three years in prison for this offense.
