The case was reported to us by a reader, who is a firefighter with the State Fire Service in Polkowice on a daily basis:
Today [September 1 – editor’s note: istotne.pl], at around 1:30 a.m., we noticed a truck driver who had driven into a ditch. In my opinion, he was under the influence of alcohol. I took his keys, and my wife and I called the police.
The police report:
Residents of Gromadka Municipality showed vigilance, thanks to which an intoxicated driver was stopped.
While driving along the road, the couple noticed that the driver of a truck was making strange maneuvers, with the vehicle already partly in a roadside ditch. The couple stopped, despite it being nighttime.
When they both approached the man, they became suspicious that he was under the influence of alcohol. To prevent the suspect from driving any farther, the reporting party took the truck keys and notified the police.
The suspicions of the residents of Gromadka Municipality were confirmed. The 62-year-old man from Silesia was completely drunk—he had more than 2‰ of alcohol in his breath. He told the police that he had drunk only two beers.
The 62-year-old now faces up to two years in prison.
