The incident occurred on August 15, at around 10:05 p.m., in the Zabobrze housing estate in Jelenia Góra. Police received a report from concerned neighbours that the crying of a small child and profanities had been coming from one of the flats for a long time.
At the scene, the officers heard a child crying loudly. The owner opened the door for them.
Inside the flat, the officers saw a crying 15-month-old boy running around and his carer, who was lying on the sofa.
The police established that the 44-year-old woman had been caring for the boy while his parents were away. A strong smell of alcohol was clearly noticeable from both the woman and her male acquaintance. A test showed 2‰ of alcohol in the woman’s system and one per mille less in the man’s.
In addition, a window in the flat was open, and the child could climb onto it without difficulty.
The boy was taken to hospital for examinations. Fortunately, nothing had happened to him. The 44-year-old woman, meanwhile, was taken into police custody. She could face up to three years in prison.
The family court was also notified of the case.
