The incident occurred on Friday, August 2, on the A4. Officers from the Patrol and Intervention Department of the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters, while crossing a viaduct over the motorway, noticed a road accident and clouds of smoke rising into the air.
The officers immediately stopped the police car and went down to check whether anyone needed help.
As a police officer approached the car, which was beginning to catch fire, he heard people calling for help as they tried to pull the trapped driver from the vehicle. The officer immediately came to their aid and, together with other road users, carried the injured man out of the car.
The injured man was moved to a safe place—and almost at the last moment. Less than a minute later, there was an explosion and the car burst into flames.
Until the emergency medical team arrived, the officers monitored the autotransporter driver’s vital signs and treated his wounds. The Municipal Police Headquarters said: “Several people were at the scene and willingly joined in the effort to save the man’s life.”
The officers emphasize:
The emergency services were able to reach the scene quickly thanks to the proper conduct of drivers on the A4 motorway, who efficiently and correctly formed an emergency corridor.
The car burned down completely. Thanks to the swift reaction of the officers and other road users, the injured man’s life was saved. Legnica police:
As the example above shows, when witnessing a road accident, it is worth stopping and helping to the best of one’s ability. Not everyone has specialized training in this area, but it is worth remembering that sometimes whether an injured person survives until professional help arrives depends on our reaction.
It is also very important to form an emergency corridor and carefully observe your surroundings. Drivers should glance in their mirrors and turn down the radio so they can hear the signals of approaching emergency vehicles from a distance.
