On 1 August, Border Guard officers from Legnica detained a Ukrainian citizen on the A4 who had a fake Romanian identity card with him. The document immediately aroused the officers’ suspicions. They received confirmation from the Romanian embassy that the document had never been issued by the Romanian authorities.
The 40-year-old foreign national stated that he had bought the Romanian identity card for 100 euros from a fellow citizen. He intended to use it to find work more quickly in Belgium.
The man was detained. He was charged and pleaded guilty. He voluntarily submitted to a fine of PLN 2,000.
Meanwhile, officers from the Border Guard Post in Świecko detained a 35-year-old Ukrainian woman travelling by coach on the same day. During an identity check, she presented a Romanian identity card. This one also turned out to be fake.
The woman admitted that her Ukrainian passport had been left in Berlin and that her friend had arranged the forged Romanian document for her.
The 35-year-old was detained for using a forged Romanian identity card. She remains at the disposal of the Border Guard. Using forged documents is punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment.
