The incident took place on the evening of 17 April 2017 in Bogatynia. In the apartment of one of the victims, the defendant fired a gun at two men, causing one of them serious, life-threatening injuries and the other a moderate bodily injury.
Thanks to the medical assistance they received, both men who had been shot survived.
Based on actions undertaken by the police and the prosecution, it was established that Dariusz R. was the perpetrator. The man was arrested the following morning and brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Zgorzelec, where he was charged with attempted murder. Subsequently, at the investigators’ request, R. was placed in pre-trial detention.
The perpetrator consistently denied committing the crime.
The investigation was later taken over by the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, which filed an indictment against Dariusz R. with the court in October 2018.
In a judgment dated 9 July 2019, the court found the defendant guilty of the crime with which he had been charged and sentenced him to 15 years in prison. (The 45-year-old man had previously been convicted, including for violent crimes).
