On Thursday, July 18, officers from the Zgorzelec traffic police, together with colleagues from Jelenia Góra, Bolesławiec, Kamienna Góra and Lwówek Śląski, conducted the “Together Across Counties” operation in Zgorzelec County. During the operation, the officers used patrol cars—both marked and unmarked—equipped with video recorders, as well as motorcycles.
The police inspected 85 vehicles. Sixty-four drivers were fined. Two drivers had been drinking alcohol, while one was driving despite having their driving privileges revoked.
Moreover, the officers seized two vehicle registration certificates from vehicles whose technical condition posed a safety risk.
What is more, four drivers exceeded the speed limit in a built-up area by more than 50 km/h, and their driving licences were consequently seized. The record holder was a 23-year-old resident of Lubań County who, driving a BMW, reached a speed of 141 km/h in a place where the limit was 50 km/h.
Police:
Unfortunately, despite numerous appeals and measures undertaken to improve road safety, irresponsible drivers who disregard the applicable regulations and endanger themselves and other road users continue to appear.
Let us remember that safety also depends on us.
