During the final of the 6th National Water Rescue Competition for Police Officers, held in Wrocław, Deputy Chief of Police, Junior Inspector Tomasz Szymański, launched the third nationwide edition of the “Safety on the Water Moves Me” information and educational campaign.
The campaign has received the honorary patronage of the Minister of the Interior and Administration and has been included in the 2019 schedule of activities under the “Together More Safely” Programme for Reducing Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour, named after Władysław Stasiak, for 2018–2020. As in previous years, the project partners are MSWiA and the PZU Foundation.
The activities aim to promote appropriate behaviour around bodies of water, including safe swimming, sailing and water sports practices, ultimately reducing accidents involving people getting into difficulty in the water and drownings among both children and adults.
The campaign will be carried out until the end of September at summer holiday locations, including camps and colonies, as well as at picnics, fairs and outdoor gatherings. Activities will be particularly intensified in areas around bodies of water and at recreation and holiday centres. As every year, police officers will remind everyone spending time by the water, including anglers, about the basic safety rules.
Attention! Competition
An additional element of the campaign is a planned competition for children and young people, involving the creation of a 30–60-second film promoting safe activities by the water, entitled “Filmowy przeWODNIK”. Teams of up to five people aged 18 or under, supervised by an adult, may take part in the competition, which will begin on 1 June this year.
Competition entries may be sent by 10 September 2019 to the Prevention Bureau of the National Police Headquarters:
148/150 Puławska Street
02-624 Warsaw
marked “Filmowy przeWODNIK”.
As part of the “Safety on the Water Moves Me” project, both MSWiA and the PZU Foundation will support police officers conducting preventive activities throughout the country by providing promotional and educational materials related to the campaign.
For these activities, 300,000 pocket guides have also been prepared. They encourage, among other things, the use of supervised bathing areas, compliance with the signs in force there, and adapting the type of activity to one’s individual abilities and skills. The materials also include 8,000 competition posters and 80,000 stickers, which were distributed to provincial police headquarters and the Warsaw Metropolitan Police Headquarters.
