The incident occurred during the night of April 30 to May 1. The operator of Bolesławiec’s city video-monitoring system noticed two men removing EU flags from municipal streetlamps.

The flags began disappearing from the city centre at 1:00 a.m. Only EU flags were targeted; the Polish flags were left untouched.

The men were masked, wearing balaclavas on their heads. In addition to removing flags from municipal streetlamps, they also tried to climb the pole next to the town hall. They wanted to take down a large flag. They were unsuccessful.

The monitoring operator directed a police patrol to the scene.

In the meantime, the men threw the removed flags onto Bolesławiec’s Market Square and set them on fire, after which they began to flee.

The police extinguished the fire and secured the flags. One of the vandals has already been apprehended. Bolesławiec police are carrying out further activities in the case.

We will return to the subject.
