Police officers from the Legnica traffic unit, while patrolling the city, noticed a Citroen on Jaworzyńska Street with a cracked windscreen.

On Wojska Polskiego Street, the officers signalled for the driver to stop. However, he did not do so; on the contrary, he accelerated sharply and began to flee. The officers gave chase.

During the chase, the fugitive committed a series of offences: he failed to obey traffic lights, did not signal a turning manoeuvre, ignored vertical and horizontal road signs, and drove onto a grass verge and the pavement.

Other patrols also joined the chase and attempted to cut off the driver’s escape route. Seeing police cars on all sides, the man turned onto Inwalidów Street at one point, where the front of his vehicle struck a parked Honda motorcycle.

He then abandoned his car and began to flee on foot.

The police officers quickly got out of their patrol car and pursued him. The suspect was detained as he ran into a utility room.

When the 47-year-old Legnica resident was already sitting in the patrol car, he admitted to the officers that he had fled because he was banned from driving all motor vehicles. What is more, the Citroen driven by the suspect was in poor technical condition, and its registration plates came from another car.

The 47-year-old was taken into police custody. He could face up to five years in prison.
