On 5 April, the police operation “Safe on the motorway and expressway”, initiated by the Traffic Department of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław in response to the constant risk of accidents on this type of road, began. The operation is scheduled to continue until 30 June 2019.

Lower Silesian police officers will enforce compliance with speed limits and pay particular attention to:

  • improper overtaking manoeuvres
  • stopping in prohibited places
  • improper marking of vehicles stopped in prohibited places
  • drivers using mobile phones while driving
  • drivers and passengers failing to use seat belts
  • pedestrians using roads not intended for them
  • the proper securing of loads during the transport of goods.

As part of the operation, mixed Polish-German police patrols have been organized in border areas.

Police officers remind drivers that the most common causes of road accidents include excessive speed and improper overtaking:

There is also a noticeable problem with people who, in the event of a vehicle breakdown or damage, do not know how to behave properly on a motorway, thereby exposing themselves and other road users to serious danger.
