On March 30, a man reported to Police Station I in Jelenia Góra and notified officers that he had found unexploded ordnance in the Bóbr riverbed. The man and his friend packed the unexploded ordnance into a plastic bag and carried it to the police.

Jelenia Góra officers:

It turned out to be a Russian-made artillery shell dating from World War II. The shell was secured in the police parking lot until the arrival of the bomb disposal patrol from the military unit in Bolesławiec.

And they add:

Fortunately, no one was injured in this case. However, it should be remembered that explosive material used in military technology is completely resistant to all kinds of weather conditions and retains its explosive properties regardless of its production date.

Bolesławiec bomb disposal experts remind us:

Careless handling of unexploded ordnance and misfired shells leads to accidents in which a dozen or so people die every year in Poland, while several dozen are injured.

And they add:

We remind you that if you find unexploded ordnance, do not touch it, secure the area and immediately REPORT it to the police or call the emergency number.
