The incident occurred on Thursday, March 28, after 2:00 p.m., on provincial road no. 296, in Godzieszów (Nowogrodziec municipality).
The driver of the BMW, a 22-year-old from Lubań County, lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road and hit a tree.
The driver was trapped in the vehicle. Firefighters freed him.
The man was seriously injured. He was taken to a hospital in Lubań.
As reported on the website of the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec:
By a fortunate coincidence, units from the Bolesławiec State Fire and Rescue Service and OSP Wykroty were carrying out operations related to another incident on the nearby national road no. 94. After receiving the report of the accident, these units were immediately redirected to Godzieszów.
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found that a BMW had hit a roadside tree. The impact was so strong that the tree was wrapped in the vehicle’s structure, while the driver was trapped inside. It was surprising that the injured man was conscious, and from the first minutes of the operation the firefighters provided him with psychological support.
Using specialist hydraulic equipment, they gained access to the injured man. During these operations, the firefighters also provided medical assistance: they immobilized the cervical spine, applied a head dressing and used thermal insulation.
The uniformed officers add:
The scene was secured, and land traffic was halted for the duration of the rescue operation.
Firefighters from Bolesławiec, Wykroty and Lubań, as well as a medical rescue team and the police, took part in the hour-and-a-half-long operation.
