A summary of the two-day operation at the site of the former Eastern Railway Station appeared on the Facebook profile of Bomb Disposal Patrol No. 23 of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment.

Bomb disposal experts:

We recovered and placed in blast-resistant containers 58 explosive and dangerous items:

  • artillery shells – 14
  • mortar shells – 5
  • artillery-shell fuzes – 38
  • other – 1 mortar-shell stabilizer.
(On the second day of operations, fuzes only).

The uniformed officers add:

The operation was dangerous for us, as every operation is. Whether there is one unexploded ordnance item or 100, we must proceed very carefully.

However, after conducting a pyrotechnic assessment at the site, we found that some of the artillery shells had damaged fuzes, so special precautions had to be taken. Another difficulty in this case was the very large amount of metal objects in the ground (so-called metal debris), which hampered and prolonged the operation.

They also emphasize:

And finally: practically all the services were involved, not just us (the Police, Fire Service, medics, Local Government Administration, MZK, PKP and many, many others; apologies if I have left anyone out). We thank everyone for securing our operation.

We also thank the residents for their understanding and efficient evacuation.
