The incident occurred on February 27 in Lubań County. The Bolesławiec bomb disposal experts received a report that a man had found a mortar round in a field. And what did he do? He put it in his car and brought it to the city, then notified the police.

The bomb disposal experts:

The mortar round had been placed in a cardboard box on the back seat of a passenger car.

They add:

Unfortunately, the man not only put himself in danger, but his actions also created a threat to many other people.
The round

The uniformed services appeal for common sense and for the appropriate services to be notified if objects that may be unexploded ordnance are found. Leaving unexploded ordnance in place poses a huge threat to the life and health of other people.

The bomb disposal experts remind everyone that unexploded ordnance remains dangerous. Even if it is rusty and covered in mud, it may still be in the same condition inside as if it had just left the factory.

As the soldiers from the bomb disposal patrol explain:

Procedure to follow after finding unexploded ordnance or misfired ammunition:

  1. Do not touch such objects.
  2. Secure the area against access by unauthorized persons (e.g. children) and mark the location where the object was found.
  3. Immediately report it by calling the emergency number 112, the Police or the Fire Service.
