The incident occurred on February 9 in Germany. The suspect, Adam K., broke into and stole a BMW M2 passenger car worth approximately PLN 250,000.

While driving the stolen vehicle in Wykroty, in Bolesławiec County, the man was stopped for a roadside inspection by a traffic police patrol. Before the inspection began, the suspect fled in the stolen vehicle. The officers pursued him.

During the pursuit, suspect Adam K., driving at a speed far exceeding the limit and unsuitable for the road conditions, lost control of the vehicle and failed to yield to a Subaru traveling correctly on a priority road. The cars collided.

The Subaru passenger suffered serious injuries that posed a real threat to her life, while the driver of the vehicle sustained injuries resulting in impaired health for more than seven days. The perpetrator of the accident, Adam K., fled the scene.

Evidence-gathering activities carried out by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec and the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters quickly led to the identification of the perpetrator. On February 12, 2019, suspect Adam K. was detained and brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec, where he was charged with three offenses:

  • burglary and theft of a BMW M2 vehicle

  • fleeing the scene of a road accident with serious consequences.

Adam K. confessed to the acts of which he was accused. For the alleged offenses, the suspect faces a cumulative sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

At the prosecutor’s request, on February 14, 2019, the District Court in Bolesławiec ordered the suspect’s pretrial detention for three months.
