Among those ensuring the safety of Lower Silesia’s residents during WOŚP will be preventive, traffic and criminal police officers. While patrolling the streets and monitoring locations where various events accompanying WOŚP will take place, preventive officers will pay particular attention to whether collections are being conducted by authorised persons. They will ensure the safety of volunteers and children collecting donations, and will also conduct information and educational activities.
Officers from operational services will monitor routes and places where WOŚP participants gather in order to prevent criminal incidents. Even before the Final, officers are also carrying out preventive measures, providing WOŚP volunteers with information about safety rules during money collections and about potential threats.
Police:
However, we must also remember the basic safety rules. Here are a few tips.
What do officers advise donors?
- each volunteer will be equipped with an ID card containing a photograph, collection number and the volunteer’s address. The ID card must be filled out legibly. The photograph must be clear, and the person’s appearance in the photograph should match the volunteer’s appearance
- the ID card must bear the logo of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Foundation
- each volunteer must wear their ID card in a visible place
- the volunteer’s collection box must be sealed with Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Foundation bands. At the top, by the opening for inserting money, the same collector’s number as the one shown on the ID card should be clearly written.
If we suspect that someone is impersonating a WOŚP volunteer and is using a forged ID card or a suspicious-looking collection box, we should contact the police (emergency telephone number 997 or 112) or the municipal/communal guard.
Officers:
We also ask you to provide any information about suspicious behaviour by people encountered who pose a threat to the safety of volunteers and those attending events organised on that day.
What does the police advise volunteers?
- conduct money collections in safe places:
- shopping centres where security staff are employed
- main routes
- well-lit places
- places with a high volume of pedestrian traffic
- places covered by camera surveillance, etc.
- do not conduct collections in sparsely frequented places, on poorly lit streets or in places considered dangerous in your neighbourhood
- avoid conducting money collections alone. There is always greater safety in a group!!! Try to arrange for the company of other volunteers and, if possible, adult supervision
- it is particularly important that when returning to your headquarters after completing the money collection, you travel in a group; seek help from your friends and relatives.
And they add:
We wish all volunteers a safe collection.
