The competitions were organized by the Association of Former Soldiers of the 62nd Special Commando Company, with the support of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment. Twenty-four teams representing schools from Lower Silesia and Lubusz Voivodeships that educate young people in uniformed classes took part in the sporting competition—nearly 300 students in total.
From the morning hours, the young participants competed in shooting with long- and short-barreled air guns. At the fitness stations, students also had to demonstrate their knowledge of the construction, disassembly and assembly of weapons, the construction of hand grenades, and timed magazine loading and unloading.
At subsequent stations, they completed a sapper course, threw grenades and practiced individual and team drill. The several-hour competition concluded with the Independence Run.
Summing up the shooting tournament and sports-and-defense competitions, the acting commander of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, Lt. Col. Witold Zawadzki, and the vice-president of the Association of Former Soldiers of the 62nd Special Commando Company, Bogdan Fiałkowski, thanked the participants for the sporting rivalry and fighting spirit, referring to the centenary celebrations of the restoration of independence. The winners of the individual events were honored with trophies and material prizes.
The tournament concluded with a hand-to-hand combat demonstration performed by soldiers of the 23rd Artillery Regiment and American soldiers stationed in the Bolesławiec barracks. Soldiers of both nations practice combat elements and other close-combat techniques under the supervision of military instructor Senior Private Mateusz Gawura, and the demonstration received considerable appreciation from both the students and the competition organizers.
