The internet is a treasure trove of knowledge – you can find a great deal of interesting information there. However, it is important to remember that criminals also use the internet in this way. They use it to gather information about the place of residence, financial status and family of people they take an interest in.
Police:
Parents should take an interest in what their children do online: whether they visit websites suitable for their age, what information they post on their profiles, which messengers they use and whom they contact.
What should children be made aware of?
Children who are beginning to navigate the internet should be made aware that they need to protect their privacy and must not trust people they meet online. If something worries a child, they should tell an adult about it.
What should every internet user remember?
- to exercise caution when sharing private photos and videos on social media
- not to disclose account passwords
- not to log in to computers in public places, and not to lend out computers or mobile phones
- not to post online or share via mobile phones photos, videos or content that could hurt someone; not to forward them
- not to respond to provocation online
- to ask a person's permission if we want to post online a video or photo featuring them
- not to share personal data, telephone numbers, email addresses, etc. online
- to treat others with respect and not insult them.
During meetings at schools, police officers inform children and young people from our county about the dangers lurking for them on the internet.
