The allotment gardening season is slowly coming to an end. However, it is important to remember that this is also the time when thieves go hunting. Valuable equipment left behind for the winter becomes an easy and valuable target for them. That is why the police remind people of several important rules to follow in order to avoid theft and break-ins at garden sheds.

What do thieves most often steal?

Anything that has any value to them—from tools, lawnmowers and power tools, through kettles, to... even doors.

How can you avoid thieves?

To minimize the risk of losses, above all, we must remember to lock the padlocks and locks on garden sheds, tool rooms and shed windows.

You can also invest in better locks, padlocks and sturdier doors.

Police:

We urge allotment owners to act cautiously and not tempt fate. They should not make thieves’ “work” easier by leaving their belongings unattended.

If it is possible to take valuable power tools elsewhere for the winter, to a safer place, this should be done.

The officers add:

We urge all allotment owners and people walking around allotment gardens to pay attention to strangers hanging around near the garden sheds. If they see anything suspicious, they should notify the police.
