The duty officer at the Police Station in Chojnów received a report about an intoxicated driver of a DAF vehicle, who had been apprehended in Okmiany by the driver and passenger of a BMW. When officers arrived at the scene, the reporting parties told them that, as they were driving from Bolesławiec towards Chojnów, they had noticed the truck driver cutting off other vehicles and moving into the oncoming lane.
Suspecting that the man might be intoxicated, the BMW driver followed him the entire time while informing the police about the incident. In Okmiany, the truck driver turned into a petrol station and then got out of the vehicle, staggering.
The reporting party immediately ran up to him and took the keys out of the ignition to prevent him from driving any further. A strong smell of alcohol could be detected from the 36-year-old DAF driver. Indeed, the man had nearly 3 per mille of alcohol in his system. He was arrested and taken into police custody.
The 36-year-old truck driver could now face a sentence of up to eight years in prison.
