The District Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec announces with deep sorrow that on August 8, 2018, junior captain, retired, Jerzy Kieler, who served as deputy district commander of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec from 1994 to 2006, has died.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated in the cemetery chapel in Bolesławiec on Monday, August 13. It will begin at 1:00 p.m.. The deceased will then be taken to his final resting place at the Bolesławiec municipal cemetery.


Junior Captain, retired, Jerzy Kieler began his service in fire protection on September 1, 1980, when he enrolled as a cadet at the Fire Officers’ School in Poznań. After graduating in 1982, he joined the ranks of the Professional Fire Service in Bolesławiec. Following the establishment of the State Fire Service, he continued serving within the structures of the District Headquarters of the State Fire Service and—from 1999, after the administrative reform—at the District Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec.

For many years, he held positions in the inspection and reconnaissance division, and in 1994 he was appointed deputy commander. On December 20, 2006, he retired.

During his service, he was known as a competent person who was very kind to his colleagues. Through his participation in identifying fire hazards and other local threats, he directly contributed to fire protection in Bolesławiec County.

He repeatedly participated in and led rescue operations, particularly during major forest fires, including the one in Kuźnia Raciborska in 1992. He helped establish the National Rescue and Firefighting System in the county. He was also the initiator and chief organizer of the nationwide Fire Safety Knowledge Tournament for children and young people at the county level. He continued this work as a volunteer after retiring, as a member of the Volunteer Fire Service in Warta Bolesławiecka. For two terms, he served on the board of the County Branch of the Association of Volunteer Fire Services.

He cooperated with local government authorities and numerous Bolesławiec institutions, services and associations. He supported the activities of the Polish Red Cross, honorary blood donation and sports for people with disabilities, with whom he enthusiastically played table tennis. He worked closely with the teaching staff of the School Complex of Mechanical Engineering. He was a member and active participant in the Association of Fire Engineers and Technicians and the National Association of Occupational Health and Safety Workers.

He was awarded:

  • by the President of the Republic of Poland, the Golden Cross of Merit in 2001
  • by the Minister of the Interior and Administration, the Silver Badge of Merit for Fire Protection in 2013
  • by the Presidium of the Main Board of ZOSPRP, the Gold Medal of Merit for Firefighting in 2000.
