The incident took place on Thursday, July 26, at around 11 p.m. A 21-year-old man entered one of the shops in Lubin’s Centrum housing estate and took a half-litre bottle of whisky and 0.1 litres of vodka from the shelf. A shop assistant saw him and tried to apprehend the thief. A scuffle ensued. The man first verbally abused the shop employee and then pushed her.

Wanting to get out of the shop as quickly as possible, the aggressor failed to notice that the door was closed and ran into it, smashing the glass. (The total losses were estimated at PLN 600.)

Police officers from the Prevention Department arrived at the scene and identified the suspect after viewing surveillance footage. He was arrested by criminal investigators from Lubin. The thief confessed. He explained that he had sold the alcohol to a man he happened to meet, and used the money he obtained to play slot machines.

The 21-year-old resident of Lubin, who already has thefts on his record, expressed his willingness to voluntarily submit to punishment. The young man could face up to 10 years behind bars.
